Your fuel data stays understandable.
Fuel Tracker is an Android app for tracking vehicles, fuel costs, maintenance and receipt photos. This page explains what data the app uses, what stays on your device, what is sent to external services, and how premium purchases are verified.
Quick summary
- Fuel entries, maintenance items, settings and attached photos are primarily stored locally on your device.
- Receipt OCR runs locally in the app. Fuel Tracker does not upload your receipt images just to extract text.
- Location features can use GPS and may call third-party location and map services to find nearby fuel stations or readable addresses.
- Non-premium users may see ads through Google AdMob. Premium purchase verification on Android uses Google Play and our backend.
- If monitoring is enabled, crash and diagnostic information may be sent to our error tracking provider.
1. Data stored by the app
Fuel Tracker is designed to work without a user account. The app stores data such as vehicles, fuel entries, maintenance records, reminders, app preferences and premium state locally on the device.
This may include:
- vehicle names and vehicle details entered by you
- fuel receipts, odometer values, prices, notes and maintenance records
- vehicle photos and receipt photos that you choose to attach
- settings such as language, currency, units and theme
- a locally generated device identifier used for premium entitlement checks
2. Photos and receipt OCR
If you add a receipt photo or a vehicle photo, the image is stored locally on the device. Fuel Tracker uses on-device OCR to extract text from receipt images. The app does not send those images to our servers purely for OCR processing.
If you export a backup, your export file can contain the records and photos that are stored in the app. You are responsible for where you store or share that exported file.
3. Location and station lookup
Fuel Tracker can use location features to help fill station information or find nearby fuel stations. When you use these features, the app may access:
- GPS-based location from your device, if permission is granted
- approximate IP-based location as a fallback when GPS is unavailable
- reverse geocoding and station-search services to translate coordinates into useful place data
This means location data may be sent to third-party services such as map, geocoding or IP location providers when you actively use those features.
4. Advertising
Non-premium users may see ads in the Android app through Google AdMob. Ad networks may process technical information such as device identifiers, app interactions, diagnostics and approximate location data in accordance with their own privacy terms and Google Play disclosure requirements.
Premium users do not see those ads in the app experience where premium disables advertising.
6. Crash reporting and diagnostics
If monitoring is enabled in the deployed app, crash information and technical diagnostics may be sent to our error tracking provider so that stability issues can be investigated and fixed. This can include app version, runtime context, error traces and related diagnostic information.
7. When data may leave your device
Most app content is stored locally, but some data may be transmitted in these cases:
- when you use location or nearby station search features
- when ads are shown through Google AdMob
- when a premium purchase is validated with our backend and Google Play
- when crash reporting or diagnostics are enabled
- when you export a backup file and choose to move or share it yourself
8. Your choices
- You can choose not to use location-dependent features.
- You can avoid attaching photos if you do not want them stored locally.
- You can export your own data and remove app data from the device using Android app controls.
- You can upgrade to premium to remove ads from the premium flow supported by the app.
